Body of worker trapped in Upper Madi tunnel found; two still missing

The body of a worker who was trapped in an under-construction tunnel of Upper Madi Hydropower Project in Sildujure of Kaski was recovered late Saturday while search is on for two others who are still missing in the incident.

Sujan Gurung, an excavator driver from Tanahun, was among the 16 who were trapped in the under construction tunnel. His body was found buried under debris yesterday night.    

Thirteen of those 16 workers trapped after the landslide blocked the main entrance to the tunnel were rescued some 12 hours after the incident that occurred Friday afternoon.  

The rescued workers - 12 Nepalis and one Chinese national - were then rushed West Regional Hospital in Pokhara, where they were discharged after receiving primary treatment as they hadn’t sustained any serious injuried.

Two others who were trapped in the tunnel are still unaccounted for and that authorities involved in rescue efforts are trying find them.

A team of Nepal Army and Nepal Police personnel had succeeded in rescuing the 13 trapped workers at around 4 am Saturday morning.
