Nepali Hindus across the country are observing Mother’s Day by showing respect to their mothers by offering greetings, fruits, sweets and gifts on Tuesday.
The day is also called Mata Tirtha Aunshi (Mother Pilgrimage fortnight) which falls in the month of Baishak dark fortnight (April/May). On the day, sons and daughters take bath early in the morning and worship their mothers.
Similarly, those people who have lost their mothers visit Matha Tirtha or nearest holy water body and remember their deceased mothers with offerings.
A huge carnival is also held at Mata Tirtha in the western suburb of Kathmandu with thousands of people from capital Kathmandu and surrounding districts throng there for worship.
