Kidney patients who have long been raising their voices for relief assistance in their medical treatment went on a rely strike from Tuesday onward putting forth a seven-point demand which includes free dialysis services, among others.
They have gone on a relay hunger strike at the local Shanti Batika (peace park) at Ratnapark, Kathmandu. They have accused the government, political parties and bodies concerned of becoming apathetic towards their problems and sufferings.
Around 20 kidney patients including Chintamani Pokhrel, Lokendra Bahadur Sharma, Madan Bikram Shah, Sabitri Tamrakar, Sumitra Bohara, Menuka Shrestha, Purna Bahadur Tamrakar, Uddhav Sharma, and Gunaraj Rai have joined the strike.
They have already called on the government and other various political leaders, apprising them of their problems.
Financial and health condition of kidney patients is very weak and treatment of kidney diseases is very expensive for them, they complained.
