Two killed, three injured in oxygen cylinder explosion

Two individuals were killed and three more were injured when an oxygen cylinder stored in a house exploded in Sotang of Solukhumbu on Sunday.

The incident took place at around 7:00 a.m. this morning in the house of Bhuvan Singh Rai of Dhodre in Sotang-6, police said.

The deceased have been identified as Shakti Rai, the eight-year-old son of the house owner and wife Pidili Tamang,26, the wife of one Chamare Tamang, according to DSP at the District Police Office, Badri Bikram Thapa.

Chamare Tamang and Bijuli Tamang were seriously injured while Kaluman Tamang was injured in the incident that involved explosion of the gas cylinder stored for trekking purpose.

The house owner Rai is reported to be in Khumbu at present. A police team has been dispatched to the site from the Area Police Office in Sotang. It takes around eight hours on foot to reach the explosion site, police said.
