The body of actor Shree Krishna Shrestha, who died aged 45 while undergoing treatment for pneumonia at Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi on Saturday evening, is lying in state at Nepal Academy at Kamaladi, Kathmandu.
The actor will receive a state funeral at Pashupati Aryaghat on Monday evening, according to the Film Development Board.
A funeral procession started from the Tribhuvan International Airport at about 3 p.m. The procession, made up of film sector personnel and fans, passed through Sinamangal, Tinkune, New Baneshwor, Maitighar, Singha Durbar and Putalisadak on the way to Nepal Academy.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala expressed shock after learning of Shrestha's death. In a message of condolence, issued on Monday, Koirala said he felt Shrestha's passing was an irreparable loss to the Nepali film sector.
Koirala also offered his condolences to Shrestha's bereaved family.
The Film Development Board has decided to halt all film-related activity on Monday in memory of Shrestha. A performance of Gaijatra, a variety show held on the day of the Gaijatra Festival, scheduled for Monday, has also been postponed for two days.
Since making his debut in 2045 BS (1988/89), Shrestha has acted over a dozen movies, including Afanta, Afno Manche and Eh Mero Hajur, among others.
Shrestha and actress Shweta Khaka had recently married on July 7 this year.
Shrestha-produced film Kohinoor, in which he also acted, was released on Friday.
