CIAA detains 14 accused including MWU VC Devkota

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested 14 officials of the Mid West University (MWU) including Vice Chancellor Padam Lal Devkota on charges of misappropriation and embezzlement of the University fund.

According to a CIAA statement on Sunday, the other arrested officials include: President of the University Service Commission Prof. Dr. Nabaraj Kandel, member of the Service Commission Prof. Dr. Shreeram Prasad Upadhya, Registrar Dr. Thekendra Prasad Giri, Dean of Science and Technology Faculty Dr. Keshar Singh Rana and Dean of Humanities and Sociology Faculty Pitambar Dhakal.

Likewise, these officials were also arrested: Dean of Management Faculty Dr. Masta Bahadur Garanja, Dean of Education and Science Lalmani Acharya, Vice-principal Ganesh Bahadur Rawat, Vice-principal Sudan Gauli, Monitoring Officer Parasram Giri, Assistant Administrator Jivan Kumar Thapa, Assistant Administrator Gagan Singh Bohra and Senior Assistant Ganesh Bahadur K.C.

“The 14 officials were arrested as per Section 16(1) of the CIAA Act 2048 with adequate ground to believe that the accused may conceal or destroy the evidence and adversely affect the action being undertaken by the Commission,” says the statement.

The CIAA is in search of absconding Dean of Engineering Faculty Ramchandra Aryal and Account Controller Kamal K.C. for their involvement in the same act.
