Update: 8 dead in Pokhara, Sindhupalchowk landslides; 3 missing

Two separate landslide incidents have killed three in Pokhara Fewa Lakeside and five in Baramche of Sindhupalchowk district on Monday.

In Pokhara, the landslide buried a restaurant situated across Fewa Lake in the morning. A person is still missing in the incident.

After incessant rainfall, the landslide buried Typical Hotel and Restaurant, situated in the Lakeside.

Prakash Magar- 28 of Okhaldhuga, Mohan Magar- 18 of Sindhuli and Ram Magar-22 of Dhading were killed in the incident. Twenty-year-old Bhuwan Magar of Ramechhap is still missing in the landslide.

Chief District Officer Krishna Bahadur Raut said that those killed and missing were the workers at the Restaurant.

Typical Hotel and Restaurant, situated near the Stupa across the Fewa Lake, was swept and buried by the landslide that hit the area following torrential rainfall, said Raut.


Five people were killed when a landslide buried a house in Baramche-1 of Sindhupalchowk district today. Two people are still missing in the landslide.

According to Chief District Officer, Gopal Prasad Parajuli, the dead have been identified as Dambar Bahadur Thapa, Bhagawat Thapa, Chandrawati Thapa, Nir Bahadur Thapa and Ganesh Kumari Thapa.

Rescue workers are searching for the missing people, while the injured are receiving treatment at the local Jalbire hospital.

At least three houses were buried in the landslide. A team led by the CDO has left for the site following the incident, it is learnt.


Three people were injured in a landslide that hit Pumdibhumdi VDC-1 located near Chhorepatan, Pokhara of Kaski district, on Monday.

The landslide buried a house in the VDC injuring 14-year old Kabi Gurung and Pranesh Gurung and 18-year old Surya Gurung, according to the chief of District Police Office, Kaski, Basanta Lama.

The victims underwent treatment at Namaste Hospital, Pokhara.
