Norwegian Auditor General discusses governance issues with Nepali civil society members

Norwegian Auditor General Per Kristian Foss interacts with Nepal's civil society members in Kathmandu, Tuesday. Photo Courtesy: Kedar Khadka  The visiting Auditor General of Norway, Per Kristian Foss interacted with civil society members of Nepal in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Foss is in Nepal on an invitation of Nepal's Office of the Auditor General. His visit aims to further strengthen the collaboration between the two audit institutions of Nepal and Norway and also support institutional capacity building of Nepal's Auditor General's office based on the local needs and international demands/standards, according to a statement.

In today's discussion, the civil society members of Nepal shared their experience about the role of Auditor General's office in maintaining sound governance and check corruption in the state mechanism. They said both the countries can learn from each other's experience to address the shortcomings.

Civil society activists Pushpa Bhusal, Khimlal Devkota and Kedar Khadka, among others, were present in the program.

Foss will participate in a national workshop on the Independence of Supreme Audit Institutions in Nepal and will speak about the mandates, roles and functions of the SAIs as constitutional body to safeguard financial disciplines and promote integrity and rule of law.
