Minister for Youth and Sports Ram Kumar Shrestha inaugurated the fourth Koteshwor Invitational National Taekwondo Tournament amid a program here in the capital Friday.
The two-day event is organised by the Koteshwor Taekwondo Dojang (club). On the occasion, Minister Shrestha said such competitions are very useful in honing the skills of sports people and producing new athletes.
Sports sector is the top priority of the government, he said, adding that the state has managed proper honours and prizes for those winning medals at international level.
He also urged the voters to choose a capable candidate in the November 19 Constituent Assembly (CA) election.Member Secretary of the National Sports Council Yubaraj Lama said the Council is focused on developing physical infrastructures for sports and thereby produce new athletes in all the 75 districts.
A total of 153 taekwondo players (72 males and 81 females) from five development regions, APF club and Nepal Police Club are taking part in the tournament. The club was established in 2049 BS and its two players have already won gold medals in the South Asian Games (SAG). RSS
