Sarita Shrestha of Butwal clinched the gold medal in women’s 46 kg during the inaugural day of the Sixth Korean Ambassador National Taekwondo Championship held in Kathmandu on Tuesday.
In the match held at National Sports Council covered hall, Shrestha beat Rakhi Sharma of Kaski to claim gold while both Nabina Khaniya of Chitwan and Sangita Shrestha of Nepal APF Club finished second.
Nepal Police Club’s Dambar Narayan Chaudhary advanced to the final of men’s 80 kg defeating Raju Shrestha of Nepal Army in the semifinals while Laxman Maharjan of APF and Bikram Gurung of Chitwan entered semis.
In the 67 kg category, Alan Rai of Kathmandu, Surendra Khadgi of NPC and Jhalak Tamang of Voice of Children also advanced to the semi-finals berth.
Similarly, Samjhana Tamang of APF thrashed Anita Basnet of Chitwan to enter final of women’s 67 kg.
Minister for Youth and Sports Ram Kumar Shrestha inaugurated the championship jointly organised by the Korean embassy in Kathmandu and Nepal Taekwondo Association. Altogether 1,403 taekwondo players are competing in 43 events.
