Nepal is all set to take on Pakistan in its inaugural match from Group A of the ACC U-19 Asia Cup that is scheduled to kick off in Dubai on Saturday.
Nepal has been grouped together with India, Pakistan and host UAE in Group A for the ACC U-19 Asia Cup.
Nepal was also drawn alongside strong competitors India and Pakistan in the last edition held in Malaysia. Nepal had lost to both the countries while it beat Malaysia.
The juniors will meet India on Sunday and the UAE on 31 December.
Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan and Malaysia are drawn together in Group B for the tournament.
Nepali junior national team had left for Dubai under the captain-ship of Bhuwan Karki on Thursday. Though Sompal Kami, who is one of the most promising young cricketer of Nepal, had been selected in the U-19 national team, he has joined the senior national team for the up-coming ICC World Cup Qualifiers scheduled to be held in New Zealand from January 13 to February 1, 2014.
Another player Sushil Kandel is also left behind due to his neck problem. However, Sompal and Kandel are replaced by other reserved players Rahul Pratap Singh and Susan Bhari.
Despite absence of Sompal and Kandel the U-19 team is strong enough to compete in the tournament, said coach Jangabahadur Thapa Magar. “The team is good at batting.”
Other players include vice-captain Ram Naresh Giri, Prakash Bista (A), Lalit Singh Bhandari, Bibhatshu Thapa, Somesh Yadav, Siddhant Lohani, Yagyaman Kumal, Sunil Dhamala, Raju Rijal, Prem Tamang, Amit Shrestha and Arif Sheikh.
