Nepal wins first practice match in New Zealand

Nepal defeated New Zealand’s Canterbury by eight wickets in the practice match on Thursday morning prior to the ICC World Cup Qualifiers scheduled to be held in New Zealand from 13 January to 1 February, 2014.

As Nepal chose to field first, Canterbury was bowled out to 204 runs in 49.3 overs. Sompal Kami and Sagar Pun grabbed four wickets each while Basanta Regmi claimed two wickets for Nepal.

In return, Nepal easily chased the target in 32.3 overs scoring 207 runs with the loss of two wickets as Anil Mandal scored 99 runs off 93 balls while Gyanendra Malla made 51 runs off 64 balls and Subash Khakurel 31 runs out of 42 balls.

Nepal is set to play another three practice matches in New Zealand ahead of qualifiers, according to Cricket Association of Nepal.

Nepali national team had won all four practice matches against different clubs during its 10-day tour in Sri Lanka in December 2013.
