The government has honoured the South Asian Games (SAG) record holder players Baikuntha Manandhar and Deepak Bista with Rs 2.5 million each.
Interim Election Council Chairperson Khil Raj Regmi handed over the cash incentives to them amidst a programme in the capital on Thursday.
Baikuntha had won three gold medals in the first three edition of SAG while Bista had clinched four gold medals in 8th to 11th SAG consecutively.
Addressing the function, Regmi said a sport is the symbol of peace and unity which boost the pride of the country. Regmi also expressed that the government is always committed toward the development of sports.
Pointing out that sport players suffer from financial insecurity in their life, Minister for Sports Ram Kumar Shrestha expressed the situation will change gradually.
The government has honoured the athletes as per the recommendation of the National Sports Council (NSC).
