National Sports Council (NSC) has decided organise inter-higher secondary and inter-collage tournaments and inter-university championship.
The 100th board meeting of NSC held on Saturday decided to organise the event in order to promote sports through education institutions’ tournaments with a slogan “School to Olympic”. The meeting was chaired by Ministers for Sports Ram Kumar Shrestha.
According to the statement issued by NSC on Sunday, NSC board meeting decided to hold volleyball, football, basketball, cricket, taekwondo, karate and athletics (100m, 200m, 400m, 5,000m, and 10,000m) tournaments at inter-higher secondary level.
Similarly, volleyball, football, basketball, cricket and athletics (5,000m, 10,000m) will feature under the inter-collage and inter-university events.
Likewise, the meeting also endorsed the budget for the Lumbini National Championship which will be organised in every two years. Ensuring Nepal’s participation in the 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea, the meeting also decided to include the budget in the next fiscal year for the same event.
NSC has decided to hold the Seventh National Sports Tournament in the eastern region as per the decision taken by the 88th board meeting two years ago.
The meeting decided to recommend the government to honour Hari Bahadur Rokaya. Rokaya is a Guinness World Record holder as he has won the fourth straight titles of the Everest Marathon. As per the decision, NSC will also construct semi-covered hall at Jajarkot, Rupandehi, Dolakha and Ramechhap districts.
