An all ladies team comprising Subina Dangol and Anuradha Nakarmi won the Kathmandu-Nuwakot Cross Country Motorcycle Rally 2014 on Saturday.
The driver-navigator duo beat 135 other participants in the competitive motorcycle (two-wheeler) rally from capital Kathmandu to Battar of Nuwakot district organised by Nepal Autobmobile Sports Association (NASA) to promote the ongoing Nuwakot Festival.
Lone driver Sumit Shrestha came in second while another driver-navigator duo Piyush Gajurel and Sajan Thapa came in third in the 89-kilometer long competitive rally sponsored by Ethiopian Airlines and its GSSA partner Explore Himalaya, a Kathmandu based travel company.
Winners of the contest were declared as per the rider’s performance based on Time, Distance and Speed (TDS) System.
The rider and the associate that bagged the first place was rewarded with Kathmandu-Malaysia-Kathmandu round trip tickets for two pax sponsored by Air Asia. Similarly, the first runner ups of the contest was rewarded with Kathmandu-Bangkok-Kathmandu round trip tickets for 2 pax sponsored by Nepal Airlines and the third runner ups bagged Mountain Flight with Buddha Air for 2 pax respectively. The winners were honored with trophies and certificates at the festival venue.
Earlier the same day, Minister for Youth and Sports Puroshottam Poudel flagged off the competitive rally which began from Sports Council in Satdobato Kathmandu.
The rally made its way along the mishmash mountainous trials through Shivpuri, Dhikure, Nuwakot Durbar, Devighat and Bidur Colony before ending at Festival venue in Battar.
