Robin Gurung won the title of the 15th Open Paragliding Championship held under the Second Mountain Sports Festival held in Pokhara on Wednesday.
Among the Nepali participants Bimal Adhikari, Ashish Bhattarai, Binoj Bomjan and Khum Bahadur Gurung secured second, third, fourth and fifth spot respectively.
With the title, Gurung bagged Rs 30,000 while the first runner-up Adhikari and second runner-up Bhattarai received Rs 20,000 and 10,000 respectively. Similarly, those securing fourth and fifth place got Rs 5,000 each.
In overall category, Great Britain’s Jamie Messenger, Russia’s Yuri Mishanin and Poland’s Michal Gierlach won top three spots. They won Rs 50,000, Rs 40,000 and Rs 30,000 respectively.
In the women´s section, Germany’s Isobella Messenger, Russia’s Murina Olexina and Olga Bryakotina received Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively after securing top three positions.
Russia’s Evgenii Griacnov and Nepal's Rabin Gurung and Bimal Adhikari secured first, second and third place in sports club section. They also bagged Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
Likewise, Dream, Nepal B, and Nordic won the top three positions in the team event while Nepal’s Bishal Thapa was declared the best debut pilot.
Minister for Youth and Sports Purushottam Paudel handed over the prizes to the winners amidst a function.
