Nepal loses to Sri Lanka as India secures 1st win in SABA C’ship

Nepal’s Sadish Pradhan takes a ball forward against Sri Lanka in the ongoing 3rd Asian Basketball Championship held in the capital on Wednesday. Nepal has lost to Sri Lanka in its second match of the Third South Asian Basketball (SABA) Championship held at National Sports Council (NSC)’s covered hall in Tripureshwor, Kathamandu on Wednesday.

Though Sudish Pradhan contributed highest 20 points, host Nepal faced 80-66 defeat against Sri Lanka.  Ramdima Roshan scored 15 points for winning team.

Pradhan had also scored 30 points to beat the Maldives 108-89 in the inaugural match of the championship on Tuesday.

Similarly, Sri Lanka had lost to Bangladesh 70-72 against Bangladesh in another match of the inaugural day.

Defending champion India defeated Bangladesh 95-39 in another match of the day. Amjyot Singh scored highest 16 points for India while Mithun Kumar’s 14 points went in vain after losing the match.

Meanwhile, organiser Nepal Basketball Association has decided to provide Rs 50,000 to the Nepali team for their magnificent performance against Sri Lanka despite losing the match.  

Altogether five South Asian nations including host Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the Maldives are participating in the championship. The winner will qualify for the FIBA Asian Championship and FIBA Asia Cup.
