India clinches 3rd SABA C’ship 2014 title

India has won the title of the Third South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) Championship 2014 that concluded in the capital on Saturday.

Champion India has won all four matches to secure the magnificent victory in the Championship played at National Sports Council (NSC)’s covered hall in Tripureshwor. India had also clinched the title in the first edition.

With the title, India has qualified for the FIBA Asian Championship and FIBA Asia Cup.

Meanwhile, host Nepal finished fourth in the championship. Nepal won a single match against the Maldives and lost three matches against India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Similarly, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Maldives finished second, third and fifth respectively in the Championship.

In the final day, India secured 108-32 points victory against the Maldives while Nepal faced 73-80 points defeat against Bangladesh.

Mishra Prakash netted 16 points for India and Aushane Ibrahim made 12 points for the Maldives while Binod Maharjan scored 27 points for Nepal and Raseduzzamam Mohammed 19 points for Bangladesh.
