Nepal beats Guam in 41st Chess Olympiad

Nepal’s men’s team secured a 3.5-0.5 victory against Guam on Monday at the 41st Chess Olympiad being held in Tromsø city, Norway, on Monday, Day 2 of the championship.

 FIDE Master Manish Hamal (rated 2068) beat Guam’s Enfode Manuel in the 23rd move in the first board.

Similarly, Rijendra Raj Bhandari (3061) beat unrated Jonathon Molod in the 32nd move in third board while Nepal’s champ Keshav (2137) was successful in the 59th move in the fourth board.

FIDE Master Surendra Prasad Shrestha (1930) played a draw against 1755-rated Rojeleon Ori in the second board.

Meanwhile, Nepal’s women’s team lost to Paraguay 3-1 to face second straight defeat. The team had lost to Turkey in the opening day. The men’s team had also lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina on Day 1.

Nepal’s unrated Suruchi Thing secured the women’s team’s only win, against Montaserat (1618).

Bina Jaishwal (1598) lost to Grabil Bhargal (2122) in the 19th move, Asmita Adhikari (1663) was beaten in the 40th move by Delila Prej (1791) and Sangita Jaishwal (1664) went down to Latisiya Abhalos (1779).

Altogether 180 countries are taking part in the tournament.
