Nepal’s number 1 ranked Rantna Jit Tamang has lifted the title of open men's singles held under the second Annapurna Corporate Badminton Tournament in Rangashala on Saturday.
Tamang who is in a closed-camp training session for the upcoming Asiad, defeated APF’s Sudip Desai in 21-14 21-12 in the final.
“I was apprehensive before the match as Sudip [Desai] defeated National players Bikash Shrestha and Sajan Krishna Shrestha,” says Tamang. “However, I beat him.”
He also says that Desai has improved his game.
Desai had secured 23-21 and 21-16 straight sets win against Shrestha and defeated Tamrakar 21-13, 17-21 17-21 in quarter-finals and semis, respectively.
Similarly, duo Hari Kumar and Hemant Agrawal of TeleTalk secured a victory against duo Rajesh Khator and Sushil Kumar Gupta of Prime Cable Industry to win the title in corporate doubles. Kumar and Agrawal registered a 21-18 12-21 21-14 victory.
Kaski Finance’s Bishal Khadka also registered a 21-10 21-12 win over Navaraj Joshi of Nepal SBI Bank to receive title in executive singles while duo Joshi and Jitendra Sharma of SBI bagged the title of executive doubles.
Joshi and Sharma beat Sun Brick’s Industry’s Ram Baniya and Shyam Parajuji pair in 21-13 21-10.
Meanwhile, Vimal Shrestha and Joseph Adhikari of APF defeated Army Club’s duo Ram Rai and Nabin Shrestha in 22-20 21-17 straight sets to win the title in open doubles.
The winner of each category bagged a tola (11.664 gm) of gold in their medal while the runner-up received half a tola of gold and the third-placed player or team got a quarter of a tola of gold.
The tournament was organised jointly by Annapurna Post National Daily and Kathmandu District Badminton Association, with the technical support from Nepal Badminton Association.
