The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has selected 24 players for the initial phase closed-camp of World Cricket League Division 3 of the International Cricket Council (ICC) scheduled for October 26 to November 2, 2014 in Uganda.
The preliminary squad selected for the closed-camp includes Paras Khadka (captain), Gyanendra Malla (vice-captain), Sharad Vesawkar, Binod Bhandari, Shakti Gauchan, Ram Naresh Giri, Basant Regmi, Subash Khakurel, Jitendra Mukhiya, Sagar Pun, Mahaboob Alam, Sompal Kami, Naresh Budhayer, Aarif Sheikh, Pradeep Airee, Puspa Thapa, Bhuban Karki, Anil Mandal, Avinash Karn, Amrit Bhattarai, Manjeet Shrestha, Mahesh Chhetri, Rahul Vishwakarma and Yagyaman Kumal.
The camp will begin on August 28, 2014, according to a CAN statement issued on Sunday.
Nepal (9th in 2014 World Cup Qualifier), Uganda (10th in 2014 World Cup Qualifier), United States (3rd in 2013 ICC World Cricket League Division 3), Bermuda (4th in 2013 ICC World Cricket League Division 3), Malaysia (1st in 2014 ICC World Cricket League Division 4) and Singapore (2nd in 2014 ICC World Cricket League Division 4) will compete in the tournament.
The top two finishers will qualify for the 2015 Division 2.
Nepal has to qualify through Division 3 and Division 2 to progress for World Cricket League Championship and Inter-Continental Cup. Namibia, Kenya, the Netherlands and Canada are in Division 2.
Nepal clinched the title of the same tournament after defeating Uganda by five wickets in the final match held in Bermuda, last year.
However, Nepal was relegated to Division 3 after finishing ninth in the ICC World Cup Qualifiers (50 overs) held in New Zealand from January 13 to February 1, 2014.
