5 killed, 7 missing in building collapse in Indonesia

A building under construction collapsed in Samarinda city of East Kalimantan, killing five people and leaving seven others missing, official said here on Wednesday.

Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of disaster agency said that seven people have been treated at a hospital for their injuries after the three-story structure collapsed on Tuesday.

As many as 65 others escaped unharmed from the accident, said Sutopo.

"Search and rescue for those buried under the rubbles is underway now," he said via phone.

Police, soldiers, rescuers from the local search and rescue office were involved in the rescue work, said Sutopo.

A mistake in construction of the building was blamed for the accident, according to him. The building was to be used as shops, he said. JAKARTA, June 4 (Xinhua)
