Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal met with visiting Vice President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) Zhao Xiaoyu at his official residence in Baluwatar on Wednesday.

ADB’s continued assistance to Nepal in various areas of development including support in other possible sectors were mainly discussed during the meeting, it is learnt.

During the meeting, PM Nepal requested ADB’s assistance in constructing mid-hill highway connecting Paanchthar in the east to Darchula in the west including some half a dozen other development projects like resolving the valley’s perennial garbage problem and the 750 megawatt Western Seti Hydropower Project.

Expressing concern over the valley’s garbage problem, Zhao had assured ADB’s support in the proper management of valley’s garbage. Zhao also said ADB was positive towards extending its assistance as per Nepal’s requests.

Zhao Xiaoyu, who is here on a two-day trip, had on Tuesday pledged ADB's continued assistance to Nepal for achieving the development targets set by the country.

He also confirmed that the ADB would continue to support the development of Nepal's large hydropower potential and emphasized the importance of taking advantage of the opportunities for public private partnerships in developing both hydropower and other infrastructure services. nepalnews.com
