Over two dozen persons have been killed in separate landslides ensued by incessant rain since past three days in the far western region, Tuesday.
12 persons have been killed when a landslide swept two houses in Mastamadau VDC of Dadeldhura and 11 persons have been killed in Patalkot VDC of Achham in a separate landslide.
The entire families of Dambar Bhool and Bijaya Bhool perished in Dadeldhura’s landslide. Dambar’s wife Mata Devi Bhool, son Thagunna, daughter Kumari and nieces Basanti and Hema Bhool, and Bijaya Bhool’s wife Padhma Devi Bhool and children Ramesh, Mahadev and Binod Bhool died in the incident.
Two persons were rescued safely from the landslide area.
Likewise, at least 11 persons belonging to four families got killed when a landslide occurred in Patalkot-9, Achham at about 10 am, Tuesday.
Those killed include Khuge Bohara, Suraj Bohara, Bhava Kumar Bohara, Tara Bohara, Jamuna Bohara and Paru Bohara. Police have said, they were facing difficulty in rescue operations due to the remoteness of the place.
In Bajhang, eighteen-year-old Juna Kumari Upadhyaya and her sister two-and-half-year old Panchakala Upadhyaya died when their house collapsed this morning. Purna Bista has been killed in a different landslide in Dipayal.
More houses are at the risk of landslides as the rain has not stopped.
The incessant rains in the far west has inundated some villages and swept away recently harvested paddy from acres of land in Mahendranagar.
Highways and supporting roads have also been blocked due to other landslides. nepalnews.com
