The government has urged the Maoists to opt for dialogue to end the current deadlock.
A cabinet meeting Thursday evening decided to urge the Unified CPN (Maoist) to sit for talks to reach political consensus and carry out protest programme in a lawful way, communication minister and government spokesperson Shankar Pokharel informed.
However, there was no explanation from the government as to how consensus could be built on the issue raised by the Maoist party vis-à-vis the President's step on the army chief case.
The government's call comes in response to the November 1 ultimatum of the Maoists to agree on their demand. The Maoists have declared nationwide protest programmes that including picketing of the government's seat, Singha Durbar, and blockade in the capital valley.
Meanwhile, today's cabinet meeting decided to withdraw the 'political cases' against some two dozen individuals who stand accused in different cases of mass violence. According to minister Pokharel, a committee would be formed under the Home Minister which will come up with a report before starting the process of withdrawing similar cases.
The cabinet also decided to carry out inspection of development projects under the leadership of the Prime Minister.
Likewise, the cabinet decided to establish Climate Change Council headed by the Prime Minister.
In another decision, the cabinet nominated Suresh Chalise as Nepal's ambassador to United Kingdom, Shyam Lal Tabadar as the ambassador to Egypt and Binod Kumar Pandey as the consul general to Hong Kong. nepalnws.com
