Speaking to reporters at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu, upon his arrival Khanal said, he would now begin an exercise to form a national consensus government.
When asked who would lead the national government Khanal said, “that will determined by consensus among the parties.”
Khanal had gone to New Delhi last week at the invitation of the Indian foreign ministry in capacity of the chief of the main ruling party.
While in India, Khanal had met with Indian high-level leaders including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, leader of main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lal Krishna Advani, foreign minister S M Krishna, finance minister and former foreign minister Pranab Mukherjee, and CPI (M) leader Sita Ram Yechury, among others.
Terming his visit very successful, UML chairman Khanal told reporters, Indian leaders had suggested Nepali political parties to work together for the completion of peace and constitution drafting process.
Khanal also added, India is still skeptical about the intention of Maoists in Nepal. Indian leaders expressed concern about Maoist activities and expression of its leaders, Khanal said. They don’t want to see a pro-Maoist constitution in Nepal, he added.
Khanal also expressed his oblivion about Nepal government’s decision to object United Nations Secretary General’s call for national government in Nepal.
There is nothing wrong with UNSG’s call for a national government, it can’t be taken as an intervention, he added.
Khanal was scheduled to return home Monday. However, he had extended his visit after Indian Prime Minister, who had earlier not given an appointment to Khanal, called him back for a meeting. He returned back from the airport. nepalnews.com
