The legislature parliament has passed the seventh amendment bill to the interim constitution by a two-third majority, Thursday.
A meeting of the legislature parliament Thursday evening passed the amendment that includes a provision in the constitution to allow president, vice president, prime minister and ministers to take oath of office and secrecy in mother respective tongues.
The government had introduced such bill after a controversy on language to be used for oath-taking surfaced when the Supreme Court scrapped the oath taken by erstwhile Vice President Parmananda Jha rendering his position inactive.
Today’s sitting of the legislature parliament also passed a resolution motion to reinstate Jha’s position.
Earlier, the main opposition the Unified CPN (Maoist) and Jha’s mother party Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (MJF) had objected to the bill saying it would not reinstate Jha’s position. They helped the constitution amendment bill pass after the ruling parties agreed to let the resolution motion pass. nepalnews.com
