Eight political parties including a ruling party have filed amendment to the policies and programmes of the government.

Tilak Bahadur Thapa Magar of ruling CPN (Marxist Leninist), Chandra Bahadur Gurung of Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, Sarita Giri of Nepal Sadbhavana Party (Anandidevi), Santa Bahadur Nepali of Rastriya Janamorcha, Bisendra Paswan of Dalit Janjati Party, Rukmini Chaudhary of Samyukta Loktantrik Rastriya Manch and Lila Nyaichyai of Nepal Workers and Peasants Party filed amendments to the government's policies and programmes unveiled on Thursday.

J.P Gupta of the Upendra Yadav faction of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum also filed an amendment.

None of the major ruling parties filed amendment although some leaders of Nepali Congress had expressed dissatisfaction over the policy document, saying it missed out on a number of programmes recommended by the NC.

Meanwhile, the main opposition Unified CPN (Maoist) has decided not to participate in the discussions in the parliament on government's policies and programmes.

A meeting of the Maoist parliamentary party held in Singh Durbar Friday morning took the decision. The Maoist PP also decided to hold talks with other smaller parties on whether to register an amendment proposal to the policies and programmes.

The party has termed the government's policies as useless and incapable of addressing the needs of the people and the nation. As a symbolic protest against the president's move to reinstate the army chief, the UCPN (M) had on Thursday sent only four of its lawmakers to the parliament while the President read out the government's policy document.

Dubbed by some economists as populist, the policies and programmes of the UML-led government prioritise peace process, constitution-drafting process, integration and management of the Maoist combatants, rescructuring of the state and development programmes to rural areas.

The new government has revived some of the populist programmes introduced by the minority UML government in 2052 B.S such that focused on rural development areas and token relief programmes for senior citizens and unemployed people. nepalnews.com

sean  - support is the issue   |60.242.206.xxx |2009-07-10 16:45:19
well i suggest maoist not to intercept or try to go against the decision of
current government and i think some of their policy as being communist parties
are same. it allways going to be same sort of culture which persist since
decades. there has to be end to this culture , country has suffered a lot. if
moist realy thinks about wellbeing of country and people they have walk together
and end the culture of unnecessary critices and yeilding at each other. Some of
the people in moist are honest and nationalist (dr babu ram battarai) a genius.
let such people guide the country.
IF Currently maoist is to support the UML
and country moves in right path with every people satisfaction then the job is
done. In nepal main problem is too many political party and everyone wants to
get above as they desire or their believe in need to be at the chair. a leader
has to be one, in nepal everyone wants to be a leader, a main negative point. w...
ramoo  - overhaul maoists over the country   |195.229.242.xxx |2009-07-10 15:48:10
now and then Maoists (terrorists) will be swept out from the country. Its's a
chance to all other progressive parties to overhaul maoist from the country &
maintain peace and development of the country. If CPN-UML gets chance to rule
over country for at least two years, it will be proved as only the CPN-UML is
such a party in the country which can motivate public into a peace & progressive
manner to ensure their own (public) life of prosperity, peace, wealty and unite
our country from all aspects now and then Maoists (terrorists) will be swept out
from all over the country
SO,i request all nepalese to think about it &
support this govt for ourselves, not need to think about few nikes of terror
group (Maoist) who suffering our people since long time with the name of Maoist.
Maoist could not be a political party. so avoid them from your side whatever is
possible to their violation over us. And suggest CPN-UML to improve their<...

Yeah you got it right man. It was like these people were running Windows, King G
took over and put linux, and as people didn't know quite well how to use Linux,
they threw it away and tried to put back Windows. Now Windows is again giving
trouble to them. There's no Macs available in the country, so it's time to get
back to Linux !
