Seven persons have been killed and at least nineteen others injured when a bus carrying pilgrims to Lumbini met with an accident at Jalbire of Mugling-Narayangad road section, Thursday night.

The bus with registration no Na 2 Kha 6271 skidded off the road and fell 100 meters down to crash in the banks of fast-flowing Trishuli river.  Six persons died on the spot while one more died while being rushed to the hospital, according to reports.

The victims of the tragic bus mishap have been identified as 50-year-old Ram Babu Baskota, 26-year-old Krishna Baskota, 5-year-old Sudhikchya Baskota, 30-year-old Renuka Khanal, 45-year-old Laxmi Khanal of Kirtipur Municipality;  60-year-old Ram Chandra Rijal of Matatirtaha VDC and Bishnu Prajapati of Bhaktapur, according to District Police Office, Chitwan.

The bus was carrying 43 passengers.

The injured are undergoing treatment at Bharatpur hospital in Chitwan. Among the injured, the condition of Sunita Baskota is said to be serious.

The cause behind the accident has not been known but police believe that the bus might have lost control while negotiating the sharp turn at Jalbire in high speed.

The bus remains lying near the Trishuli river completely destroyed and the driver of the bus is absconding. Nepalnews.com

It is really sad many died at Trisuli but the govt is dummed and has to do
something to avoid the serious accident. The Transport Minister is not doing his
job well he should be going to the highway with Police tops and sortout the
srious matter.Even the media only write about the incidents but no mention what
to take proper action by the govt. Why?why?why?
Has the media or the police has
the number of dead people in their file?
Please for God sake take action now or
more innocent people will perish'''''''
A Concerned Nepali  - Speeding is the problem   |91.55.198.xxx |2010-02-06 08:42:22
Wearing set belts, putting up road signs, or better road conditions will not
solve the problem. Speeding is the problem behind "all" accidents in
Nepal. Unnecessary speeding. Overtaking round corners. Racing round
corners.Driving on the wrong side. I have travelled in Nepali buses, so I know
what I am writing about. The Drivers just laugh at you when you ask them to slow
down.

Ofcourse there is mistake from driver but we do better understand the accident
where it happened. nepal's government never gonna improve the road condition in
between mugling and narayangarh section. so it's frequently happen. it's not any
new acciednt, as usual n normal for nepal poor government.

something thats already inside you?
Dev Ale  - How tragic   |202.63.245.xxx |2010-02-05 22:56:27
Such tragic news comes almost every week in Nepal. There should be mechanisms to
control such incidents by fixing traffic signals in each turnings, highway
patrolling for high speed or wrongly parking vehicles. Most important is be
concious pengers themselves and control to the driver if do wrong.

bhushan  - seatbelts   |110.44.113.xxx |2010-02-05 19:20:01
mandatory wearing of seat belts should decrease the number of deaths if such
mishaps happen in the future. the bus must have rolled many times while the
pengers inside were flying from one end to another, dying from injuries mostly
to their heads.

Transportation minister should wake up and do something.
