Jamim Shah, chairman of news and current affairs channel -Channel Nepal - and largest cable operator Space Time Network, has died from the injuries he received after being shot in broad day-light in the capital on Sunday afternoon.

Shah, 45, had sustained bullet injuries in his head and chest after two unidentified gunmen in a motorcycle (Ba 17 Pa 8733) opened fire at the private car (Ba 1 Cha 2151) he was traveling with a companion near the French Embassy in Lazimpat at around 2:30 p.m.

The assailants immediately fled from the scene after the incident.

Shah had been rushed to TU Teaching hospital in Maharajgunj for treatment, where the doctors soon declared him dead.

Mathuraman Malakar, who was traveling with Shah and sustained bullet injuries in his leg, is undergoing treatment at the same hospital. His condition is said to be stable

Police said they are investigating the case but are yet to ascertain the motive behind the attack.

Shah had at one time built a huge media empire through investment in two national dailies (now closed), television station and a virtual monopoly in the distribution of satellite television channel in Kathmandu through his large cable network. nepalnews.com
