National Institute of Disaster Management, an undertaking of the Indian home ministry, has awarded Amod Dixit, general secretary and executive director of National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET), with the Disaster Mitigation Award 2009.

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh presented the award to Dixit at the inaugural function of Second India Disaster Management Congress organised in Delhi, Wednesday.

Dixit was honored with the award in recognition to his outstanding contribution towards education, training and awareness for earthquake risk mitigation in South Asian Region.

Dixit, who is affiliated with NSET since its inception in 1993, has been actively engaged in various activities in natural hazards and disaster risk reduction in Nepal and abroad. nepalnews.com
