Indian President Pratibha Patil will confer the title of Honorary General of Indian Army on CoAS Gurung amid an investiture ceremony on Dec.14, according to a press statement issued by the Directorate of Public Relations of Nepal Army.
The government on Wednesday gave its permission to CoAS Gurung to receive the title of Honorary General of the Indian Army.
During his visit to India, CoAS Gurung is scheduled to meet India's Defense Minister A.K Antony, Minister for External Affairs S.M Krishna, Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao and National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan on Dec.15.
Gurung, who will be leading a nine-member delegation, is also scheduled to hold discussion with his Indian counterpart General Deepak Kapoor, Defense Secretary Pradeep Kumar including chiefs of Indian navy and air force.
He will inspect UN Peacekeeping and Defense Research and Development Organization and other key Indian military installations.
The Army chief will be chief guest of the passing out parade of the Indian Military Academy on Dec.12 and deliver a speech at the Defense Service Staff College on Dec.16.
Meanwhile, in a message to Army personnel on the eve of the International Human Rights Day on Wednesday, CoAS Gurung denied there is any impunity in the Nepal Army and directed army personnel to duly apply the human rights knowledge they received during training.
He said the message that there is no impunity in the NA has already reached national and international level as the army personnel involved in human rights violations during the insurgency period have already been punished as per law.
The Army chief also claimed that Nepal Army doesn't tolerate rights abuse. nepalnews.com
