The freed Nepalis are safe and process to bring them back to Nepal has begun, said Pradhyumna Bikram Shah, joint-secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA).
Those freed from captivity are Deepak Bhattarai, Indra Prasad Bhattarai, Dilip Kumar Sunuwar, Tekraj Rai, Laxmi Yonjan, Laxman Thakur, Prem Prasad Koirala, Jaya Kumar Rai, Prem Giri, Lok Chand Chaulagain, Tilak Bahadur Thapa, Yogendra Sunuwar and Raj Kumar Gurung.
They had entered Iraq for employment illegally. Nepal government has banned Nepalis to go to Iraq for employment.
The thirteen Nepalis were reportedly held hostage and taken some 400 kilometers away from the Iraqi capital to employ them at work forcefully. nepalnews.com
