CPN (UML) general secretary Ishwor Pokharel Saturday said his party was ready to support a government led by the Maoists provided they gain confidence of other parties.
Inaugurating the convention of UML's Makwanpur district committee in Hetauda, Pokharel said UML had no problem with a Maoist-led government if the Maoists reached broad consensus. "If that is not possible we are ready to give the Maoists respectable position in the present government."
Pokharel, who is accused by the K.P Oli faction of maintaining soft approach towards the Maoists, said since the UML had helped the Maoists form government under their leadership the Maoists should return the favours by cooperating with the current government.
He also said the Maoists were out of the government because of their own activities.
Saying that ultra-rightist elements are conspiring to curtail the efforts to write new constitution, UML leader said the parties should not deviate from the task of constitution-drafting. nepalnews.com
