Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has called for a political consensus and unity for institutionalising democracy in the country.

Speaking at an inauguration of the national conference organised by former MPs Club on the occasion of International Democracy Day in the capital, Tuesday, PM Nepal said logical conclusion of peace process and writing constitution on time are crucial to strengthening democratic culture in Nepal.

He also stressed the need to end the politics of obstruction and boycotting of parliament for political unity.

He further said stability and democracy are prerequisites for economic progress and development and decreasing the rich-poor gap.

Speaking at the same function, Constituent Assembly chairman Subas Nemwang said it is impossible for the country to get a new constitution, which would hinder stabilising democracy, if the parties fail to lessen their differences. nepalnews.com

Peter  - Majority Rules - Democratic Supremecy   |202.79.40.xxx |2009-09-16 05:12:35
In most countries (except for single party dictatorships) all policical parties
do not agree with each other on all matters. So concensus is
impossible.

That is why people vote for the electorial candidates that they
want to represent them.

Then those candidates vote on proposals in
Parliment. And the majority wins the vote. So concensus is not vital.

What is vital is a parliment with rules. Rules that all members agree to
obay. Obstructing the Business of Parliment is against the house rules in
almost every country.

If a member(s) acts out of order in the house then
they should be suspended (thrown out) from the house for 24-hours, or even 7
days or more.

During that time they have no right to vote on Parlimentary
proposals.

That is democratic supremecy.

Everybody is talking of two options. First, drive the Maoists to the wall. If
need be, unleash the Army on them, with the help of India or the US. To my mind,
this is a non-option. If India thinks the Maoists can be eliminated, then they
should have been eliminated by 2005. What India or the US can do at best is
provide arms, training, and political support. The fighting will have to be done
by General Gurung’s men. In this situation, the Maoists would go to the
international community as the people bring wronged, not as people wronging
others. On the other hand, the Maoists say that they can go back to war and take
over. But if they could, they would have taken over. Why did they talk to the
political parties? Because they knew that the gun was not succeed in capturing
the state and retaining it.
The other option is to evolve and recreate the
consensus that is broken down. This is the only option left if Nepal is to be

It doesn't look nice for a PM to keep talking about what the opposition or the
others should do. Specialilly not for a PM who is not elected, in fact, defeated
by people's popular vote.

Mr. Madhav should know that he is where he is today
because of the same policy he is taliking about and becasue of the same people
he has been talking about.

Mr. PM should stop attemting to deceive people of
Nepal and leave the place for those who Nepali people have mandated for, not the
interim consution which is a doent of compromise..

To demonstrate that Nepalese government and the PM is serious about
insutionalise the democracy MKN will have to resign along with his all losers
minsisters. Currently it has been a big mockery of democracy. Such level of
rediculousness is only possible in a country where himan do not rule human
rather where aninal rule animal.
If Makune is talking with some sense he should
resign.

Overthrow of monarch been almost three years. But great and visionless
politicians of Nepal are still not ready to agree in between. Any idiot becomes
PM or party leader says "needs to have political consensus". This is
too much "bagbash" and nothing gets done in Nepal.

At present
government dumps heavy fines to business houses on TAX evasions. It is very
good. But how about people who makes huge amount of money through corruptions?
May be government don't touch them because political leaders are involved there
or what???

Forget completely about top level government officials. Even
"Subbas" in tax and customs offices had made huge amount of money and
properties. Who is going to look in to it. Who will work out how much is their
official eranings. Are their properties proportion to their official
earnings?

Just fedup of listening those common terms all the time.
