Doctors of Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) continued their protest for the 23rd consecutive day Tuesday by shutting down most of the special medical wards in the hospital except emergency services.
The Faculty Doctors' Association (FDA) at TUTH has been on strike since August 30 to exert pressure on the hospital administration for fulfilling their demands which includes timely promotion and training for doctors, quotas for their children in the MBBS programme run by TUTH including more benefits and facilities.
Several rounds of talks between the FDA and hospital administration has failed to bring the two sides on any consensus.
Patients comings for special medical check-ups at TUTH during the afternoon and evening time are being turned away as the Out Patient Department is virtually without any doctors during that time.
In a similar report, doctors of BP Koirala Institute of Health Science (BPKIHS) in Dharan have also halted all health services including the emergency ones after relatives of some patients manhandled doctors at the hospital accusing them of negligence while treating the patients.
The situation in the hospital as of filing this news was still tense.
Armed Police Force personnel have been called in to bring the situation under control and provide safety to the doctors and the patients admitted in the hospital.
Reports said that the hospital administration is holding dialogues with the incensed relatives of the patients and that a break-through is expected soon. nepalnews.com
