Three civilians have been killed in clash between the police and local residents in Bhauratar of Rautahat district early Thursday morning. The incident left two others seriously injured.

According to reports, police had reached the area on suspicion of arms being stored. The locals surrounded the police team and took them under custody suspecting to be dacoits.

The 12 police personnel escaped from the villager’s grip by resorting to firing, which killed three residents on the spot. The police claimed they resorted to firing for personal security after the locals, whom had taken them hostage, attempted to set fire to them.

The deceased have been identified as Jhoti Sah, Chaina Sah and Raj Kumar Patel. The two seriously injured have been taken to Narayani Sob-Zonal hospital for treatment. nepalnews.com

why criminal activities has gone unabated in the Tarai? Because tarai and
Taraians have been used by the rulers, bureaucrats and security officers of
this country to extract resources from Tarai: tax from land. rice from their
farms, mango from their orchades, ghee from their milking cattle, bribe from the
custom points, twenty rs of bribe for each sack of fertilizer, from smuggling of
food grains and Ganja , money from abduction, dowry from marriage across the
border, woods from the jungle and what not. And these means have overtime become
source of their livelihood and income as well. what is the solution then:
killing and invasison when ever one wishes just to remind them
that there is
a state which can do any thing anytime to make you realize that despite all the
services that you have provided for centuries, you are not a free people.

criminals activities goes unabated in Terai, there is more dacoits,
robberies, smuggling and the police force is weak. Sometimes people do have to
take law into their own hands since police force is weak, incompetent and
corrupt. Although policing the state is mandated by the people to make them
secure, this incident have come about due to the feeling of insecurity from both
sides. It just tells us how weak is our police force. To the person, who wrote
senior police commander must be bahun/chettri is utter nonsense. What is your
rationale? To remind you a fact, the head of nepal army is Gurung. Was
Bahun/chettri before! It is true minorities haven't been well represented mainly
because they are illiterate and have been dictated by the rich and powerful.
There could be no other better way to make this country run effectively other
than providing free and quality education for all!!!

Funny and disappointing...the public shouldn't take things in their own hand. On
the other had, the police should have warned the village council and should have
at least given warning shots before firing on the people. However, it was
something that was bound to happen in Nepal.

was it a search operation? were they civilian or armed police force? should not
this be investigated? who will investigate when state itself has become the
killer?
what should be the way out.
Mr home minister, is this all happening in
the Tarai because of your special security policy. are you becoming hitler and
want to kill the madheshis in this country. then what is the way out - another
revolution or invasion by a foreign country. You are ruining the country. You
are making the tarai the killing field.

ya i think nobody have to stop killing each other and we have to show to this
world. nepal is the place that concern with the highest number of killers.
it
is not because of the history... but because of the current
changes......
anyway i would like to appriciate this kind of events ...
in my
mind one thing is counstantly disturbing me because of one essential queary that
is why people are not killing every day?
why its happened some days only?
it
must be daily
isnt it?????
what you think?????

Tulash karki  - How stupid those villagers are.   |77.100.200.xxx |2009-10-01 10:05:07
need more killings, must have been killed more than just three when they try to
take the law into own hand. What those villagers think about themselves? Above
the law?
Anything thats security personnels legitimate activities must not ever
be disrupted by the civilians whatsoever.
