Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Monday dismissed news reports that he offered Prime Minister's post to Nepali Congress president Girija Prasad Koirala during a secret meeting held at former royal aide Lokman Singh Karki's house yesterday.

Speaking at a programme organised at the Unified CPN (Maoist) headquarters, Koteshwor, Dahal said the meeting with the NC president was concentrated on finding a solution to the current political impasse by addressing the issues concerning the President's move and that the 'rumours' that he offered support to Koirala as the next Prime Minister were baseless.

Dahal salso aid his party was firm in its stance that a national government should be formed under the Maoist leadership. Despite the messy national politics the peace process and the task of constitution-drafting would be completed on time, Dahal added.

Quoting sources, some news reports said Dahal offered the post of Prime Minister to the NC president. Leaders of NC and other ruling allies have reacted sharply to the secret meeting held at Karki's house as well as the Maoist 'offer' to Koirala. nepalnews.com
