The government has decided to give martyr status to Hem Narayan Yadav, a UML ex-parliamentarian from Siraha-4 who was killed at the hands of government's security men in 2062 B.S, and Aalauddin Ansari, a VDC secretary in Mahottarai who was killed last year.
A cabinet meeting on Wednesday decided to elevate them to martyrs. According to an investigation report prepared by the UML, ex-parliamentarian Yadav was killed by army men under the command of Lt Col. Babu Krishna Karki.
Ansari, then secretary of Hirapur VDC, Mahottarai district, was murdered by an unidentified group after abduction. He is believed to have been killed by one of the armed Terai groups.
In another decision, the cabinet announced Rs 3 lakh compensation to each of the families of Prakash Bista, Dev Raj Joshi and Lokesh Malla of Bajhang district, who were killed during the armed conflict.
Similarly, the government has decided to provide Rs 1 lakh each to the families of seven Yarsagumba pickers from Gorkha who were slain by the locals of Nar village in Manang few months earlier.
Also receiving government's relief aid are the families of three youths murdered by a mob at Chapacho Bhaktapur a couple of months earlier. The families of three youths, who were mistaken as kidnappers were beaten to death by Chapacho villagers, will receive Rs 50 thousand each.
Today's cabinet meeting also decided to dissolve the steering committees of National Women's Commission and Social Welfare Council.
Meanwhile, the cabinet has decided to provide necessary relief aid to the victims of landslides and flooding in far-western district.
Home Minister Bhim Rawal said the relief aid would be delivered after proper assessment of the loss caused by flooding and landslides. In the meantime, the government will speed up rescue works in the affected areas, he added. nepalnews.com
