The European Union Regional Directors' Troika continued its high-profile political parleys on Friday as well by calling on President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Speaker Subas Chandra Nemwang separately.

At the meeting with President Yadav at the President's office, Shital Niwas, the EU Troika is learnt to have again expressed serious concern over the delay in the constitution-drafting process.

The EU Troika was of the opinion that the delay in the constitution drafting process will hamper the overall peace process.

Earlier today morning, the EU Troika met Chairman of the Constitutional Assembly Subas Nemwang and queried about the progress in the constitution-drafting process.

During the meeting, CA Chair Nemwang assured the EU Troika that the constitution would be written by the stipulated time.

Talking to media-persons after the meeting, Nemwang said that the budget would not be passed through ordinance.

Nemwang remarks comes at a time when speculations are being made that the budget will be passed through a government ordinance as the parliament has been unable to go into regular business due to continued obstruction created by the Unified CPN (Maoist) by raising what it calls civilian supremacy issue.

The Troika met senior political leaders including Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and UML chairman Jhala Nath Khanal soon after arriving in Kathmandu on Thursday, discussing Nepal's peace and the constitution-making process.

During all the political parleys, the Trioka expressed serious concern over the delay in the constitution-drafting process, and cautioned that failure to draft the new constitution on time might push Nepal into a critical situation.

At the meeting with Prime Minister Nepal at the PMO, the EU delegation emphasised that the political parties should unite to write the constitution and bring the peace process to a conclusion.

The EU Troika which is here on a two-day visit is also scheduled to meet army chief Chhattraman Singh Gurung. nepalnews.com
