Vice chairman Mohan Baidya, party's foreign department chief Krishna Bahadur Mahara and Dahal's son Prakash is accompanying him during the trip.
The visit is aimed at strengthening the ties between the Chinese Communist Party and the Unified CPN (Maoist), said Mahara.
Talking to reporters at Tribhuvan International Airport before leaving for China, Dahal said he was hopeful the current deadlock will end after his return from China.
This is Dahal's first China visit after he resigned as Prime Minister in May.
Earlier, he had visited Beijing in August last year as the Prime Minister, breaking the tradition of Nepali Prime Ministers making India as their first official foreign destination. nepalnews.com
