Ruling Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) will soon submit a proposal (among the main political parties) for amendment of the Comprehensive Peace Accord (CPA), according to a senior CPN-UML leader.

The Peace Agreement has only worked to deceive the people of the country and it needs to be amended soon, according to senior UML leader K.P Oli. He didn't elaborate.

The CPA signed between the Girija Prasad Koirala led interim government and erstwhile CPN (Maoist) brought the former rebels into the mainstream of national politics and jumpstarted the peace process.

Oli, who is known for his sometimes outrageous remarks on the current state of national politics, told journalists at a press meet in Jhapa that the amendment of the peace agreement is necessary so as to allow the Nepal Army to start recruitment drive to fill up vacant positions and purchase weapons and ammunitions for training.

Describing the Maoist combatants as "guerillas", the UML leader said that Nepal Army is a "national army" and that they can't be viewed on the same level as the "Maoist guerillas".

He also accused the Maoists of being the major impediment for the formation of a "national consensus government". nepalnews.com

I admire him although I do not support Communists of any walk. I always board a belief that so called CPA signed by GPK was a flaw, deception to Nepal and Nepalese. It was signed because GPK wanted to remain in Power and possibly become first President of Maoist's NEW NEPAL. The unfolding events inside Nepal clearly shows that where this person GPK stood. There should be an open debate among Nepalese with a voting rights about restoration of the Crown, not necessarily bringing back Gyanendra as a King, though. I am not suggesting this because I love the King, it is because we need to have a symbol around which all Nepalese can rally against vehemently personal and ideological divides among the political parties. It is the national integrity which is at stake, I think. It is obvious that no one is concerned about it.
