The ruling coalition Friday urged the Unified CPN (Maoist) to withdraw its planned protest movement and find a solution to the current problem from the parliament.
A meeting of the ruling allies chaired by Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal concluded that the protest programmes declared by the Maoists, which include blockade in Kathmandu, would undermine the democratic norms and the spirit of the constitution.
The ruling parties also asked the Maoists to play a constructive role to immediately end the obstruction in the parliament so that the budget could be passed.
Urging the Maoists to refrain from engaging in violence and vandalism while carrying out agitations, they also asked the government to take necessary steps to ensure peace and security.
Leaders attending the meeting at the PMO in Singha Durbar included NC parliamentary leader Ram Chandra Poudel, UML's Keshab Badal, chairman of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum (Loktantrik) and Deputy Prime Minister Bijaya Kumar Gachchhadar, Rastriya Prajatantra Party chairman Pashupati Shumsher Rana, Sadbhawana Party chairman and supply minister Rajendra Mahato, CPN (ML) chairman C.P Mainali and ministers Bhim Rawal, Shankar Pokharel and Rakam Chemjong.
The ruling coalition's call to the Maoists comes two days before the latter's ultimatum to meet their demands expires. nepalnews.com
