Nepali Congress (NC) Central Working Committee (CWC) did not finalise the amendment draft of the party statute before the Mahasamiti meeting, slated to begin Sunday, after CWC members failed to reach consensus.

The CWC has decided to table the dispute at the Mahasamiti meeting for discussion. A CWC meeting held Saturday, one day before the beginning of the Mahasamiti meeting, failed to finalise the draft after some CWC members including acting president Sushil Koirala were adamant on their stance that the party President should be given authority to appoint some of the office bearers in the new statute.

Most CWC members are for electing all the office bearers through election and making the president a ceremonial figure.

NC Mahasamiti meeting is beginning Sunday in Kathmandu. The Mahasamiti meeting was called despite vehement opposition from party president Girija Prasad Koirala, to finalise the party's amended statute and clarify its position on some key issues of the new constitution.

NC is preparing to transform itself to a multi-post leadership model scrapping the presidential model it had been following since decades ever since its inception more than fifty years ago. The statute will be tabled at the general convention next year for final approval. nepalnews.com

Never take BP's name from your dirty mouth you power hungry nonsense leaders of
the congress. you have damaged the party badly. the corrupt chiranjibi, govinda
raj, khume etc etc are still there. they should be saked.

gagan thapa and other
young people should take the lead now if the congress party is to exist. It is a
political party, not a momo shop of girija and sujata. all congressies should
understand that.

Dear Girija Kujata private limited party

You are the stain on BP's face. you
will not do anything to the country. you don't have vision. you call yourself a
democratic party but don't have democratic system within the party... you face
hippocratics!! We challenge you to kick out girija and sujata from the party,
clean it up and come with a long term, clear vision for the nation's development
and service to the people.

If every established systems and even age old insution like monarchy have
changed in new Nepal, why not a simple and ineffective presidential type of model
be replaced by a more progressive multi-post leadership? Perhaps it could be
more effective and democratic and also this is what the majority of the NC CWC
members want it to happen. If you want NC to be people's party, then take the
challenge and do it.
