Talking to Nagarik daily, Monday, Pant said, it is up to the Nepali people and political parties to decide who should form the government and what type it should be. It is not within UN or UNMIN's area, he added.
In his mid-term report to the UN Security Council on UN's assistance in Nepal's peace process, Ban had said, "A Government of national unity remains desirable for timely promulgation of the country's new constitution and for the successful integration and rehabilitation of Maoist army personnel."
Pant informed the government had taken the issue seriously. UNMIN has been expressing such comments, which weaken the government and the security mechanism, time and again, he said.
"UN did not feel the necessity to call for a unity government when Prachanda (Pushpa Kamal Dahal) was heading the government and parties like Nepali Congress and Terai Madhes Loktantrik Party were in opposition. Why should it do it now?", he questioned. nepalnews.com
