With his government feeling intense heat of the Maoist agitation, Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal met Nepali Congress (NC) President Girija Prasad Koirala at the latter's residence in Maharajgunj Tuesday afternoon.
During the meeting, the embattled prime minister is learnt to have sought Koirala's suggestion on the next course of action for his government in the wake of the nationwide agitation the Maoists started demanding the correction of the President's move and amidst protracted parliamentary obstruction.
In response, Koirala stressed on the need to find a way out to the current impasse through political means rather than military.
By saying this, Koirala was clearly hinting at the remark made by the Minister of Information Shankar Pokharel who said yesterday that the government will deploy security personnel to quell the Maoist nationwide agitation if it breaches the Comprehensive Peace Agreement and turns violent.
Talking to media-persons after the meeting, PM Nepal urged UCPN (Maoist) to come to the negotiating table to find a political solution to the current crisis facing the nation.
Koirala has intensified political parleys as the political crisis further deepens in the country.
He had met UCPN Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal in his residence on Monday.
During the meeting, Koirala called for withdrawal of the Maoists' agitation including cooperation for passage of the budget through the parliament.
However, Dahal told the NC chief that the Maoist agitation will continue until their demands are fully met.
Earlier in the day, Koirala conferred with CPN-UML Chairman Jhala Nath Khanal on the latest political situation of the country before the latter's India visit.
During the meeting, Khanal briefed Koirala about the agenda of his India visit set for Tuesday evening including the Maoist nationwide agitation and efforts to find political consensus to end the prevailing deadlock. nepalnews.com
