Main opposition Unified CPN (Maoist) has picketed the district administration offices (DAOs) across the country as part of its second phase protest programme on Wednesday.
The Maoists cadres gathered at the DAO gates amused themselves with dances and songs. They also chanted anti-government slogans. The protests are scheduled to continue till office hours.
There was huge presence of security men at the Kathmandu DAO in Babarmahal in view of the possibility of untoward incidents during the protest.
Meanwhile, party cadres clashed with police in Sunsari district headquarter Inaruwa. The clashes occurred when police stopped Maoist cadres trying to enter the DAO office. At least six police personnel and a dozen agitators are reported to have injured in the clash. Police fired six tear gas shells to control the agitators.
Reports from Bidur (Nuwakot) and Charikot (Dolakah) say the agitators scuffled with the police stationed to avoid any untoward incident during the agitations.
