An ambulance heading towards BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Dharan, carrying a 59-year-old asthma patient from Sungnam-2, Tehrathum was stopped by Young Communist League (YCL) Cadres at Kagate, Dhankuta at about 8 am.
He died due to lack of treatment for almost six hours, at 2 pm. The distance between Dharan and Dhankuta is only about 50 km and the ambulance would have taken a little more than an hour to reach the hospital.
Cadres of Unified CPN (Maoist)'s sister organisation YCL had blocked the road to counter the indefinite bandh of Dhankuta bazaar called by CPN (UML)'s sister organisation Youth Force.
Dhankuta bazaar is reeling under bandh, blockade and curfews since Monday night due to the tension between the two youth wings of the two parties.
The local administration had imposed curfew orders from 5 pm Tuesday to 6 am Wednesday to avert clashes. The curfew relaxed for six hours from 6 am, Wednesday was re-imposed at 12 noon. It has been relaxed again after Wednesday evening.
Meanwhile, an all party meeting in Dhankuta held Wednesday evening has decided to seek solution by a consensus and the situation of Dhankuta is expected to improve from today. nepalnews.com
