Khanal was to return home on Monday after wrapping-up his five-day visit of India, which was claimed to have been done upon the invitation of the Indian government.
But Khanal's much-hyped political visit to India appeared to look like a failure as both Indian Prime Minister Dr Singh and ruling Congress (I) President Sonia Gandhi had snubbed him until the last moment.
After finally getting an appointment with Indian Prime Minister for Tuesday, Khanal cancelled his flight scheduled at about 1 pm on Monday. It was not known whether the UML chief has also secured an appointment with Gandhi.
Khanal was scheduled to meet the Indian PM Singh, Gandhi, senior government ministers and main opposition leader during his stay in New Delhi.
He has already held separate meetings with Indian finance minister Pranab Mukherjee and leader of main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi last week.
If all goes as planned, Khanal will return home today in an afternoon flight after his meeting with the Indian Prime Minister. Nepalnews.com
