A meeting of the senior leaders of the two ruling parties held at the Prime Minister's official residence at Baluwatar decided to weigh in all options for the approval of the budget if the Maoists don't come to an understanding to end the parliament deadlock till Wednesday.
Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Home Minister Bhim Rawal, Finance Minister Surendra Pandey, UML chairman Jhala Nath Khanal, NC acting-president Sushil Koirala, senior leader Ram Sharan Mahat including others participated in the two-party meeting.
Resuming the obstructed parliament, drafting of new constitution and the peace process featured highly during the meeting, it is learnt.
Talking to reporters after the meeting, NC chief whip Laxman Prasad Ghimire said that the meeting discussed all available options to ensure the passage of the budget through the parliament before Nov.20. He didn't elaborate on what those options were.
He said discussion will go on throughout the day to weigh in all options available for approval of the budget.
Similarly, CPN-UML chief whip Bhim Acharya told reporters that the discussion will be held with Maoists including other parties to forge consensus on the issue of passing the budget through the parliament at the earliest. He said bilateral and tripartite meetings will be held among parties for this, but if no consensus is reached the government will seek to pass the budget by using other options.
The leaders of the two parties had held a meeting on Monday afternoon also in which they decided not to waver under any kind of Maoist pressure, including their street agitation. nepalnews.com
